Life Balance

During a recent discussion about leadership, we watched this plate spinning routine by Erich Brenn.  It is amazing!  The topic was on balancing your life.  The presenter used this video to spark discussion about life balance and how you keep all of the plates in your life spinning at the same time.

A few thoughts came to me during that discussion.

My first thought was why do all the plates need to spin?  If you are trying to keep too many plates spinning in your life, maybe it is time to set some of the plates aside for a while.  The scripture came to mind in Ecclesiastes chapter 3, starting in verse 1.

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.  Ecclesiastes 3:1
It then goes on to explain that there is a time and a place for everything in your life.  If your life feels out of control and you are having trouble keeping all the plates spinning, then think about which plate to take off the stick.

That leads to a great question.  Which plates should I stop spinning?  When things get hectic, most people have a tendency to stop exercising, give up sleep, start eating poorly, and neglect their spiritual growth.  They think that if they stop doing these things that they will have more time.  Unfortunately, this line of thinking is flawed.  Things like good health and spiritual grown are not plates, but they are (to borrow a military term) force multipliers.   These things make the plates spin better, spin longer, and increase your ability to spin the plates.

There is no prize for spinning the most plates.  As a final thought, consider Mosiah 4:27.

And see that all these things are done in wisdom and order; for it is not requisite that a man should run faster than he has strength. And again, it is expedient that he should be diligent, that thereby he might win the prize; therefore, all things must be done in order. Mosiah 4:27.

Bajio, Cafe Rio, or Costa Vida?

It is time for the showdown.  Which one is best: Bajio, Cafe Rio, or Costa Vida?  Or is it (as was my opinion) that they are all exactly the same?

I decided to do a taste test.  Six people participated.  Three were salad testers and three were burrito testers.  None of the people who participated have any food judging experience although a couple of them have competed in cooking contests and have a couple of first place finishes to their name.   Each couple went to a different restaurant and picked up a Sweet Pork Salad and an Steak Burrito to go.  We ordered each salad with black beans and their creamy green dressing (whatever they happened to call it).  The steak burritos were ordered enchilada style with black beans. Then we all met at a central location and judged each dish on the following:

Value Score = Weight (oz)/Cost($)
Overall Appeal (visual appeal, aroma, garnish)
Recipe (Cooking, ingredient combination, too moist or dry)
Taste (Flavor combination, Seasoning, Texture)

Sea Arch at Cabo

We just returned from a cruise to the Mexican Riviera.  Great Trip!  I didn't take my good camera, so these pictures were all taken with a Canon A1100IS, then processed in Aperture.

This is the sea arch at the end of the Baja peninsula near Cabo San Lucas

Ponderize Mosiah 2:20-22 (8-14 May 2016)

20 I say unto you, my brethren, that if you should render all the thanks and praise which your whole soul has power to possess, to that God who has created you, and has kept and preserved you, and has caused that ye should rejoice, and has granted that ye should live in peace one with another— 21 I say unto you that if ye should serve him who has created you from the beginning, and is preserving you from day to day, by lending you breath, that ye may live and move and do according to your own will, and even supporting you from one moment to another—I say, if ye should serve him with all your whole souls yet ye would be unprofitable servants.
22 And behold, all that he requires of you is to keep his commandments; and he has promised you that if ye would keep his commandments ye should prosper in the land; and he never doth vary from that which he hath said; therefore, if ye do keep his commandments he doth bless you and prosper you.  Mosiah 2:20-22
