Ordered the Camera

Today is a red letter day. I just ordered my Canon XSI from Amazon.com. I also picked up a UV filter, an extra battery and an 8GB card. It should be here in a couple of days. I will be using the kit lens (18-55) for a while until I can get the money for a longer lens. My next purchase will be an external hard drive for my computer since my internal drive is about full and I also want to purchase Photomatix so that I can mess around with HDR.

I am in a photo club at work. We organized a scavenger hunt. Basically each person goes out during their lunch hour and takes a photograph of a specific item. We then bring them back and during our meetings we compare and discuss the photos. There is one assignment each week. The first assignment is to take a picture of the statue at Brigham Young's grave site. Stand by for some photos.

Bajio, Cafe Rio, or Costa Vida?

It is time for the showdown.  Which one is best: Bajio, Cafe Rio, or Costa Vida?  Or is it (as was my opinion) that they are all exactly the same?

I decided to do a taste test.  Six people participated.  Three were salad testers and three were burrito testers.  None of the people who participated have any food judging experience although a couple of them have competed in cooking contests and have a couple of first place finishes to their name.   Each couple went to a different restaurant and picked up a Sweet Pork Salad and an Steak Burrito to go.  We ordered each salad with black beans and their creamy green dressing (whatever they happened to call it).  The steak burritos were ordered enchilada style with black beans. Then we all met at a central location and judged each dish on the following:

Value Score = Weight (oz)/Cost($)
Overall Appeal (visual appeal, aroma, garnish)
Recipe (Cooking, ingredient combination, too moist or dry)
Taste (Flavor combination, Seasoning, Texture)

Sea Arch at Cabo

We just returned from a cruise to the Mexican Riviera.  Great Trip!  I didn't take my good camera, so these pictures were all taken with a Canon A1100IS, then processed in Aperture.

This is the sea arch at the end of the Baja peninsula near Cabo San Lucas

Old Barn

I don't want to be known as the guy who takes pictures of old barns, but I have to admit that I think old barns are cool.  This one is especially cool with a hole in the roof.

There is nothing special about this photo.  It is just a 3 shot photomatix HDR bracketed at +/- 2 stops at F8.  I messed with the saturation, contrast and sharpness a bit.
