Birds

A little experiment with depth of field using a telephoto lens.

Geese in Flight

I admit that this picture isn't very compelling.  It is part of my ongoing quest to be able to take pictures of birds in flight, which is much harder than I thought it would be.

Geese

The next rule of wildlife photography is that an odd number is better than an even number.   Or maybe not.  I get all these rules mixed up.

Duck!

I'm just working on my wildlife photography over at the wetlands discovery point.
Rule #1.  Get the eyes in focus. (I think I got it)
Rule #2.  Photography animals doing animal things.  (OK, ducks swim. Got that one too)
Call National Geographic.  I'm ready for the big time!

Purple Grass

I spent some time looking around Wetland Discovery Point in Kaysville.  The purple grass caught my eye.

Skeleton Barn

This old barn is west of the Farmington Station.  I'm glad I got a shot of it.  I don't think it will make it through another winter.  Standard 3 shot HDR processed in photomatix.

Deseret MIll

I have been trying to find a good angle to take a picture of this mill.  It sits right by the freeway and is surrounded by power poles, trees and houses.  It is hard to find a good angle.  This is a 3 shot HDR taken at 300mm f8 from a long ways away.  I cropped this picture to get it to fill the frame. The sky is boring, sorry.  I think I need to try and get to this spot early in the morning on a day with white puffy clouds.

The Empress

This building was amazing.  Here is a 3 shot HDR (+/-2) of the Empress Hotel in Victoria BC.

This shot wraps up all the photos that I took during our Alaska cruise.  Thanks for following along.  Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

Parliament

Here is a 3 shot HDR of Parliament in Victoria BC.

Boat Dock

This is one of my favorite shots of Victoria.  I liked this one so much I made it my wallpaper.  Maybe I ought to make a puzzle out of this one.

House Boats

These house boats are very cool looking.  Reminded me of Sleepless in Seattle.

Paint the boat

I don't live near the water so I don't get many chances to shoot photos of boats.  It was kind of fun to walk around Victoria and see the sights.

Ship in Dock

Let's move back to Victoria BC.  Here is a single shot HDR of our ship in the dock.

Flowers 15

To all you flower picture lovers out there I am sorry to dissapoint you, but this is the last one in the series.  We will now move on to other subjects.

Flowers 14

Another incredible flower at Butchart Gardens

Flowers 13

We are nearing the end of the flowers.  I think this was one of my favorites.  Nature has a way of being balanced without being exactly symmetrical.

Flowers 12

Just like us, not all flowers are perfect specimens.

Flowers 11

Flowers 10

Yellow Flower

Flowers 9

Nope, this is not another rose.  Sorry to disappoint you.

Flowers 8

Pink Rose

Flowers 7

Everyone loves roses.  Don't they?

Flowers 6

No, we are not done yet.  We have several more days of flower pictures.  I know this one, it is a rose.  Look how smart I am!

Flowers 5

Yellow flowers are nice.  I'm starting to think I should look up the names of these things.  Oh well, you don't care, so I don't care.

Flowers 4

Then again, one flower, in a properly composed photograph, may be more pleasing to the eye.

Flowers 3

They tell me that if you have three things in a picture that it is more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.  It would be nice to find out who "they" are.   I would like to ask them some more questions.

Flower 2

I really should do some research and find out what kind of flowers these are, but to tell you the truth, I don't really care.  I'm just trying to take a picture.  I'm looking for symmetry and great colors.  That's about it.  Other than that, flowers are just nice to look at and cost a lot of money.  I know, because I have bought my way out of the dog house many times.   OK, I think this one is a rose.  How did I do?

Flowers at Butchart 1

I now have a bunch of flower pictures that I took at Butchart Gardens.  I will post one a day for the next couple of weeks.  Enjoy.
